Jujubella

The most striking thing about her record is what happens at Newcastle. She has won 3 of her 10 races there, which works out to 30 in every 100 — a remarkable return for any horse, let alone one competing at the lower end of the sport. Most horses spend their careers picking up the odd result here and there; Jujubella has turned one particular track into something of a home. Her first career win came there on 2 January 2025, and Newcastle has clearly suited her ever since.

She is also a horse with a preferred distance, which matters more than many casual fans realise. Between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four furlongs, she has won 3 of her 10 races — again, nearly 1 in 3 — which tells you the yard knows exactly how to place her. Get that combination of track and trip right, and she becomes a genuinely competitive animal.

Jujubella is trained by the partnership of Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, based up in Milnathort in Perth and Kinross. It is a yard in fine form this season, having sent out 49 winners, so there is clearly good horsemanship behind her. Oisin Orr has ridden her five times and won once, making their partnership a 1-in-5 combination. She raced just one day ago, so she is firmly in the thick of her season.

The honest caveat is that her recent run of form — finishing 9th, 11th, 6th, 7th, 7th and 5th across her last six races — shows she has not hit the winner's enclosure since Haydock Park on 3 July 2025. That is a stretch of 11 months without a win, and her placings suggest she has been finding things a little tougher lately. But given what she has shown at Newcastle over her career, it would be no great surprise if that track eventually unlocks another good day.
