Judge Frank

Those two wins do tell a consistent story, at least. Both came in the autumn of 2024, first at Chepstow in September and then at Windsor just a fortnight later, both on normal ground, both over distances between seven furlongs and a mile. On normal ground, Judge Frank has won 2 of 9 races, a rate of 22%, which is genuinely solid at this level. The problem is that conditions have to be just right, and even then, the results have not come. Recent form reads 7-11-7-5-6-2 — a second place being the brightest moment in six winless runs, with two seventh-place finishes bookending the sequence.

Rob Hornby has been in the saddle for five of those races and is still waiting for his first win aboard the horse. That is not necessarily a damning statistic — the partnership simply has not clicked yet — but it does add to the sense that Judge Frank is a horse who requires patience. The Flint yard itself has had a decent enough season with seven winners sent out, so the operation knows how to get horses to win. This one just hasn't cooperated lately.

What keeps it interesting is that Judge Frank raced just one day ago, which means the team clearly believes there is still something to find. At Class 6, over seven furlongs to a mile, on a decent surface, the ingredients for a third career win are all theoretically there. Whether it arrives before another 19 months pass is the question everyone following this horse is quietly asking.
