Jorebel

The Chris Gordon and Freddie Gordon combination — trainer and jockey sharing a surname is no coincidence, and the partnership clearly suits Jorebel. Of the 12 races Freddie has ridden him, they have won 5, a win rate of 42%, which is exceptional by any measure. That is nearly winning every other race together. What makes it particularly striking is the character Jorebel has shown along the way. On one occasion Freddie thought the job was done, eased down, and a rival came to challenge — rather than accepting defeat, Jorebel dug back in and held on. Horses that respond like that when let off the gas are rare. He has also ground out wins in proper scrap finishes at Worcester and Lingfield, the latter being his first race over fences, which adds another dimension to his profile.

Jorebel is at his very best in Class 5 company — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing — where he has won 4 of his 6 races, a remarkable two-thirds success rate. His first win came at Fontwell Park in September 2025, and he followed it up with four more wins in the months that followed, a purple patch that Chris Gordon has partly put down to the horses arriving at this season in better shape than the last, and therefore well treated by the handicapper. His most recent victory came at Plumpton on 1 December 2025, though Gordon was candid that the race fell apart tactically, with the pace collapsing at the front — meaning the form of that win might flatter on paper.

Recent form reads 6-5-4-–-5-1, showing he hasn't threatened the frame in his last three outings after that Plumpton win. He raced just yesterday, so whatever happened there will shape what comes next. Gordon has been frank that Jorebel owes the team nothing — describing him as fantastic, tough, and easy to train. That last bit matters more than it sounds. A horse that is straightforward to prepare tends to run to his best consistently, and with the Gordon partnership firing, there is every reason to think Jorebel has more wins in him yet.
