The recent form offers a sliver of encouragement. Finishing second, then skipping a run, then posting third and fourth in back-to-back races suggests Jet Packer is at least moving in the right direction — even if that direction stops frustratingly short of the front. The horse raced just yesterday, so clearly the yard at Epsom believes there is still something worth chasing here.
Regular jockey Pat Cosgrave has had five attempts to find the key and come up empty every time — 0 wins from 5 races together. That is not a criticism of Cosgrave, who is an experienced rider, but it does underline that the problem is not about who is in the saddle. Trainer Jim Boyle has sent out 25 winners from his Epsom base this season, so there is clearly no shortage of ability in the yard. Jet Packer simply has not found a way to add to that tally.
The horse typically competes at Class 4, which sits in the middle of the racing ladder — not the very top, but not the bottom rung either. Seven races at that level and still no win suggests Jet Packer may be sitting just above the standard where it could realistically dominate. Sometimes a drop in the quality of opposition is all it takes to unlock a first win. Until that happens, this is a horse whose supporters have learned to celebrate a place finish and keep the faith.
