Jampa Ling

Recent form tells a cautious story. In its last six outings, Jampa Ling has finished third once and placed twice more, sandwiched around runs outside the frame — the kind of pattern that suggests a horse capable of the odd decent day but not yet stringing together any momentum. Racing just yesterday shows the horse is being campaigned actively, which at least means Kieran P Cotter's yard believes there is enough ability there to justify entries. Cotter's base at Portarlington has had a respectable season with six winners already, so there is a trainer in form working with this horse, which is something.

At three years old, Jampa Ling still has time. Plenty of horses take a season or two to work out what they are good at, and a horse that places often enough is not entirely without merit. The job now is finding the right race — the right distance, the right opposition, the right conditions — where it can finally get its head in front. Until that happens, Jampa Ling remains a horse that shows up, tries, and falls just short.
