There is only one race to go on so far. In that single outing, Jaijai finished sixth, which is not where anyone wants to be but is also a fairly common introduction to racing life for a youngster. Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers being asked to perform in public for the first time — the noise, the crowd, the starting stalls — and a sixth-place finish often tells you more about inexperience than ability. The important thing is that the race is done and the education has begun.
With Hannon's team behind them — a yard that wins at a rate most trainers would envy — Jaijai will have every opportunity to improve on that debut. Whether they do is the interesting question, and there is genuinely not enough evidence yet to answer it. Watch this space.
