Ivatt

The challenge for Ivatt is the company it keeps. It has been pitched into Class 2 racing — among the top races in Britain — on three occasions and has not managed a win from those three attempts. That is a significant gulf, and it hints at a horse that may have hit a ceiling at this level. Gordon Elliott, the trainer, has had a stellar season with his Longwood yard sending out 210 winners, so Ivatt is operating in a strong operation. But not every horse fits. Ivatt's recent form — a second place, then an eighth, a sixth, a fourth, and another sixth — suggests it is striving to find its feet in competitive company without quite finding it. The placings show it is close enough to mix in the race, but close is not the same as winning. At this stage, without a victory to its name, Ivatt's future will depend on whether Gordon Elliott can find a more suitable spot — a race where it fits better, a course where it clicks, or simply a day when everything aligns — before the door closes entirely.
