Invincible Isaac

At just two years old, there is plenty of time for the penny to drop. Two-year-olds are essentially teenagers being asked to perform under pressure, and some take longer than others to work out what is being asked of them. Racing just yesterday, Invincible Isaac is very much a horse in the middle of its education.

The yard behind the horse carries some weight. Lemos De Souza, based in Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing, where the best trainers in the country operate cheek by jowl — has sent out 17 winners this season, which speaks to a stable that knows how to get horses ready to win. That the horse hasn't managed it yet is not necessarily a reflection of the training; some horses simply need more time, more experience, or the right race to unlock what they have. Whether Invincible Isaac has something to unlock remains the open question.
