Invincible Annice

That was most dramatically illustrated on 1 June 2024 at Musselburgh, where Invincible Annice won a Class 2 race — one of the top tier of races in Britain — for the first time in her career. To put that in context, she spends most of her time competing at Class 6, the bottom rung of the ladder, where she has managed just 1 win from 15 races. Winning a Class 2 from that base is a real step up, the kind of day that stands out in a career and tells you there is more to a horse than its everyday form suggests. It came before she joined Waggott's stable; she had previously been trained by Karl Burke, winning twice as a two-year-old.

Her most recent win came at Newcastle on 20 November 2025, around six months ago, and since then she has finished no better than eighth in her last six races. Waggott has explained that a run at Ripon earlier this season came on ground that was simply too fast for her, which goes a long way to explaining those disappointing numbers. Her regular jockey is Amie Waugh, who has ridden her in 12 of her 31 races for 1 win together — jockey Shane Gray, who partnered her at Hamilton, noted she was idling a bit in front but put it down to the tough conditions rather than a lack of ability.

The yard itself is in decent form, sending out 10 winners this season, and Invincible Annice raced just yesterday, meaning she is very much an active project. The picture that emerges is of a horse whose record flatters to deceive in one direction — she looks ordinary on paper, but on the right day, in the right ground, she has proven she can beat much better horses than she usually faces.
