The partnership with Rachael Blackmore has been particularly productive. In seven races together, Blackmore has ridden him to three wins — a win rate of 43%, or nearly 3 in every 7 races. That is an exceptional return and reflects how well the two work together. Mark Walsh has also ridden him with success, and it was Walsh aboard for the Aintree Class 1 and the October 2024 win at Wexford — the most recent victory, now 18 months ago.
That gap is the complicating detail in Inthepocket's story. He has not won in his last six races, and his recent form figures — two unfinished runs alongside three fifth-place finishes — paint a picture of a horse who has been difficult to keep in one piece. De Bromhead has been candid about this, describing him as "fragile" with "issues over the years." After his most recent race just yesterday, the trainer noted that he appeared to be running well before landing awkwardly at a fence, which forced him out of contention. There was no alarm in De Bromhead's assessment — more the measured patience of someone who knows this horse well enough to take the rough with the smooth.
The hope is that he can get back out within the next few weeks. Whether or not Inthepocket adds to his four career wins, the Class 1 at Aintree will always sit at the centre of his story — proof that, on his day and in the biggest races, he belongs at the very top of the sport.
