What makes those wins more striking is the context. His then-trainer Eve Johnson Houghton described him as "very unfurnished" — essentially, a horse who hadn't fully grown into himself yet. Before the Ascot race he was playing up in the paddock and doing everything wrong. He did everything right once the race started. At York, he was stuck on the wide outside without any shelter from the pace, which is generally where you don't want to be — and he won anyway. That kind of raw talent, showing through despite a difficult trip, is the sort of thing that gets horses talked about.

Since then, though, the story is one of a horse searching for its best again. He hasn't won in 16 races since August 2023 — over 33 months ago — and his recent form reads 3rd, 4th, 16th, 7th, 8th, 9th. He wins roughly 1 in every 8 races overall (2 from 16), and at the Class 2 level where he typically competes, the rate is just 1 from 9. His current trainer Julie Camacho, whose yard at Norton in North Yorkshire has sent out 46 winners this season and is clearly in good form, has recently had his wind tweaked after a flat display at Windsor. She believes there's a good run in him.

His most productive partnership has been with jockey Daniel Tudhope, who has ridden him to both of his career wins — that's 2 victories from just 5 rides together, a win rate of 40%, which is a remarkable return. When those two are reunited, it's worth paying attention.

Indian Run raced just yesterday and is very much an active runner. He's a horse who has already shown he can win at the top level on a big occasion — the question is whether, at five, the best is still ahead of him or whether those two golden weeks in 2023 remain the high-water mark.
