Across 31 races, Impero has won 5 and placed in 18 others, a win rate of roughly 1 in every 6 outings — not flashy, but the sheer volume of placed efforts shows a horse who is nearly always in the race, even when not winning it. His recent form sharpens that picture considerably: two wins from his last six races, with a second and a third also in that stretch. That is a horse in form, not a horse flattered by one good day.

Where Impero really comes alive is over a long trip. At distances beyond two miles, he has won 5 of 14 races — that is more than 1 in 3, which is an exceptional conversion rate at any level of the sport. It suggests a horse who genuinely relishes the test of stamina, who gets better the longer a race goes on rather than just surviving the distance. Trained by Cian Collins out of Navan in County Meath, Impero represents a yard that has had a productive season with 20 winners sent out. Interestingly, regular jockey Jack Cleary is yet to get off the mark in eight rides together, which is the kind of quirk that makes racing endlessly strange — sometimes horse and rider just don't click on paper, even when both are performing well elsewhere.
