Imperial Esprit

That sole win came at Uttoxeter back in October 2021, now 55 months ago, which is a long time between victories by anyone's measure. At that level — Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — Imperial Esprit has won 1 from 4 attempts, a 25% win rate, or roughly one in every four races. That's actually a respectable return at that grade, which makes the long gap since the last win slightly puzzling. The horse clearly has the ability to get there; it just hasn't managed to put it all together again since.

What the recent form does show, though, is consistency of a different kind. The last six runs read 2-3-3-2-4-4 — that's four finishes in the top three from six races, suggesting a horse that competes, places, and earns its keep even if the winning line has proved elusive. At 12 years old, that level of reliability is worth something. Many horses this age are winding down or running out of steam altogether; Imperial Esprit, having raced just one day ago, is clearly still going.

Whether another win is coming is the open question. The form is there in flashes, Uttoxeter remains the happy hunting ground, and the horse has shown it knows where the finish line is. Patience, it seems, is the name of the game.
