The recent form is actually more encouraging than the bare record suggests. That sequence of 5-2-–-4-4-3 shows a horse that has been placed as recently as second, and the consistent mid-pack finishes point to a young horse still learning the game rather than one being found out. A second place is tantalisingly close, and for a 3-year-old still filling out and developing, there is every reason to think a first win is within reach.

Iff In Doubt is trained by Edward Lynam at his yard in Dunshaughlin, County Meath, a team that has sent out 6 winners already this season. Lynam is a patient handler, and given that the horse raced just one day ago, the team is clearly keeping it busy and hunting the right opportunity. Sometimes with a young horse it is simply a matter of finding the right race on the right day — and if the pieces fall into place, Iff In Doubt could finally get off the mark sooner rather than later.
