Ideal Du Tabert

The recent form makes for slightly mixed reading. In its last six races, Ideal Du Tabert has posted two runner-up finishes alongside a handful of fourth-place efforts, and one run where it was pulled up or unseated — the dashes in the form line suggest a race it did not complete. Two seconds is encouraging in one sense, because it means the horse has been genuinely close on more than one occasion. But it has also gone six races without winning, which at the age of eight starts to raise quiet questions about whether that first victory will ever arrive.

Ideal Du Tabert has been off the track for 45 days, which is a relatively short break — enough time to freshen up without losing fitness. It returns to the care of Miss Laura Richardson, whose yard has sent out just one winner so far this season. That is a modest return, and it means Ideal Du Tabert is not coming out of a barn in red-hot form. For a horse still chasing its first win, that context matters. Everything needs to go right — the right race, the right conditions, the right day — and so far, those things have not quite aligned.

At eight years old, time is not an ally. Horses can absolutely win for the first time late in their careers, and the placed form shows Ideal Du Tabert has the ability to mix it with winners. But the clock is ticking, and with a trainer having a quiet season and a horse that has now gone a dozen races without winning, supporters will need patience and perhaps a little luck on their side.
