Trained by C Byrnes out of Ballingarry in County Limerick, I Started A Joke comes from a yard in seriously good form — 26 winners sent out this season alone, which is a genuinely productive tally and a sign that horses from this operation arrive at the track ready to run. Philip Byrnes is the jockey most familiar with this horse, riding it in six of its eleven races and winning once together, a partnership that has clearly been built on repetition and trust even if the results haven't always followed.

The horse got off the mark at Limerick on 28 December 2024 — a fitting venue given the Byrnes base nearby — and then stepped things up significantly by winning at Punchestown in January 2026.
