Recent form doesn't offer much encouragement either. Finishing positions of 7, 7, 11, 5, 7, and 4 across the last six races suggest a horse that plugs away without threatening at the front. The fourth-place finish is the bright spot in that sequence — close enough to hint at capability, but the returns either side of it were more forgettable. Having raced just one day ago, Huntly Lodge is clearly in a busy spell of work.
The yard behind the horse is Amanda Perrett, based in Pulborough in West Sussex, and it has been a productive season with five winners sent out so far. That makes Huntly Lodge something of an outlier — a horse still searching while the stable around it is finding the winner's enclosure. Whether a change of conditions or a particularly well-chosen race can unlock something remains to be seen, but at 13 races and counting, the clock is ticking.
