That sole career win came at Lingfield Park on New Year's Eve 2024, now 16 months ago, and it remains the defining moment of his career so far. Lingfield's all-weather track suits a certain type of horse, and Horus clearly had his day there. Whether he can find his way back to that kind of performance is the question his trainer Michael Attwater will be working to answer. Attwater is based at Epsom in Surrey and has had a productive season, sending out 25 winners from his yard — so the operation clearly knows how to place horses to win. Horus just hasn't quite cooperated.
He competes mostly at Class 5, which is towards the lower end of the racing ladder — these are races designed to give horses like Horus a realistic chance of winning. Even at that level, he has won just 1 of 12 races, roughly 1 in every 12 attempts. His most regular jockey is Sean Levey, who has partnered him five times and got that one win out of him — a 20% win rate together, which is actually the best ratio Horus has shown with anyone. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much in active training and being kept busy. For now, Horus is a horse whose the yard will be hoping that New Year's Eve moment at Lingfield was a sign of what he can do, rather than just a lucky night.
