The numbers are modest. A win rate of roughly 1 in every 17 races is a hard thing to build excitement around, and the recent spell makes it harder still — five placed finishes and a gap in the form in the last six runs, with nothing better than fourth among those efforts. Jody McGarvey, who has partnered this horse more than anyone, has yet to find the combination that gets Ho My Lord back to the front. Six races together, zero wins. That partnership has had its chances, but the result has been the same each time.
Padraig Roche trains Ho My Lord out of Coolaghknock Glebe in County Kildare, a yard that has sent out seven winners this season, so there is clearly ability in the operation. The fact that Ho My Lord has not added to that total suggests this particular horse is performing at a level where winning is genuinely difficult — not through any lack of trying, but because the competition is simply tough enough to keep it honest.
What keeps the story alive is that Ho My Lord raced just one day ago. At eight years old, still active, still placing, there is an argument that the horse is doing its job — running regularly, finishing in the frame often enough to suggest it belongs. Whether another win ever comes is the real question. Navan on a February afternoon was the one time everything clicked, and 38 months on, the team will be hoping the horse can find that feeling again.
