What keeps this interesting, though, is who has the horse in their care. Julie Camacho trains out of Norton in North Yorkshire, and her yard has been in seriously productive form this season — 49 winners sent out, which is the kind of output that tells you this is not an outfit that struggles to get horses fit and ready. When a capable trainer keeps running a horse that has yet to deliver, it usually means they see something at home on the gallops that the racecourse form has not yet reflected. Whether Highland Bear can translate that into a result is the question.
The one encouraging note in the figures is that the finishing positions are at least moving in the right direction — seventh, then sixth, then fourth suggests a horse that is gradually working its way closer to the action. It raced just one day ago, so it is firmly in the thick of its campaign right now. A first place, or even a first top-three finish, would represent a significant step forward. For now, though, this is a horse still searching for its moment.
