The most revealing number in High Fibre's record is what happens on normal ground: 3 wins from 15 races, a win rate of 20%, or roughly one in every five outings. That is significantly better than his overall career average of around one in eight, and it tells you something straightforward — get the conditions right, and this horse performs. Put him on wet or muddy ground and the story changes entirely. Trainer Harry Fry's yard in Corscombe, Dorset, has sent out 25 winners this season, so there is clearly good judgment being applied about where and when to run their horses. With High Fibre, ground conditions are not a minor footnote; they are the whole conversation.
His journey to this point has not been straightforward. Fry has spoken about how the horse showed real promise early on, but injury and timing conspired against him — he missed opportunities, had to step back, and took longer than hoped to find his feet. His first career win came at Newmarket in October 2021, in a race his then-trainer Ralph Beckett described as a well-chosen spot, even if the road to getting there had been bumpy. The win at Kempton Park eight weeks ago, his most recent, shows the talent has not faded.
What is harder to explain is his partnership with jockey Bryan Carver. Eight races together, zero wins — a record that stands out against a horse who has clearly shown he can win. That 0-from-8 run is not a small sample to dismiss. It does not mean the combination is finished, but it is a thread worth watching the next time High Fibre is declared.
His recent form reads 5-5-2-1-6-5 — a win sandwiched between some mid-pack finishes. He is not dominating, but he is not out of ideas either. At Class 4 level, where he has won 2 from 9 races (around one in four and a half), he is competitive enough to be taken seriously. The ground just has to be right.
