That one win came at Sedgefield in September 2025, and it remains the sole moment of victory in a 12-race career. Eight months have passed since then, and Herja has run six times without winning, though the recent form — finishing second, second, fourth, seventh, second, third — suggests a horse that is competitive rather than struggling. Two runner-up finishes in the last six races, and three placings from the last four, point to a horse in reasonable nick that simply hasn't managed to get its nose in front.

Trained by Patrick Griffin out of Oldtown in County Dublin, Herja is one of the yard's more seasoned performers at six years old. Griffin's operation has sent out one winner so far this season, so this isn't a stable firing on all cylinders — which makes it all the more notable that Herja has been placing so regularly. Having raced just one day ago, the horse is clearly in an active campaign, and with that kind of recent consistency, another win isn't out of the question. It just needs the pieces to fall right.
