That one win came at Huntingdon in November 2024, and it remains the high point of the career so far. The trouble is, it was 18 months ago, and the six races since have produced nothing better than a third place. The recent form figures of 3-3-6-6-4-11 paint a fairly clear picture: there were signs of a return to form with back-to-back thirds, but before that the horse was finishing well down the field. At the level it typically competes at, Herbygoesbananas has yet to win from three attempts, which suggests the horse finds things just a little bit tougher when the competition is stronger.

Trained by Henrietta C Knight at West Lockinge in Oxfordshire, the horse is at least in capable hands. Knight's yard has sent out 15 winners already this season, so the operation knows how to get horses to the track in form. The fact that Herbygoesbananas raced just one day ago shows the team is keeping it busy and looking for the right opportunity. Whether another Huntingdon-style moment is around the corner remains to be seen, but with a trainer who clearly has things ticking along nicely, it would be unwise to write this one off entirely.
