Harry's Legacy

His two wins came close together in the summer of 2022: first at Leopardstown in June, then at Killarney the following month. Leopardstown is one of Ireland's most prestigious tracks, so getting off the mark there is no small thing. The problem is that July 2022 win at Killarney is now 47 months in the rearview mirror, and he hasn't troubled the winner's enclosure since. His recent form — finishing 10th, 4th, 10th, 5th, 3rd, and 2nd in his last six races — shows a horse that is edging closer again, with back-to-back placed efforts most recently. That second place last time out is the most encouraging sign in a while.

The partnership with Wayne Lordan is worth noting. In six races together, Lordan has ridden him to both of his career wins — a win rate of 2 from 6, or roughly 1 in every 3 rides. That is a striking number, and it suggests the two have a real understanding. When Lordan is in the saddle, Harry's Legacy tends to produce his best.

He is trained by Ross O'Sullivan at Kilcullen in County Kildare, and it has been a productive season for the yard — 35 winners sent out so far, which is a healthy output and a sign of a stable in decent form. Harry's Legacy performs best when racing over a distance of a mile and six furlongs to two miles, winning 1 from 7 races at that trip, or roughly 1 in every 7. That is where he stretches out and finds his rhythm. He raced just yesterday, so he is very much in active training and clearly being kept busy. Whether a first win in nearly four years is around the corner is the question — but the recent placed form at least suggests the answer might not be as far away as it once seemed.
