There is not a great deal to go on yet, and that is entirely normal at this stage. One race tells you a horse is up and running, that it handled the experience, and that there is something to build on. A third-place finish on debut is actually a decent starting point — it means the horse was competitive without quite having the fitness or experience to win, which is often exactly what a trainer hopes to see first time out.
What is worth watching is the trainer. A Oliver has sent out 20 winners already this season, which suggests a yard that knows how to get horses ready to run and ready to win. A horse coming out of a productive stable, with one solid run in the legs, is often in a much better position second time around than its bare record suggests. Hard Promises has everything still to prove, but also everything still to play for.
