The standout moment came at Cork on 24 July, where Hanney Boy broke his duck in decisive fashion. That victory, his first from the track, came four weeks ago and remains his only success to date. Since then, his form has been mixed but encouraging. In his last six races — most recent first — he has finished seventh, then first, then third, third, second and second. That run shows a horse who is competitive at his level without being spectacular, but who keeps getting a look-in. The two seconds and two thirds suggest he is regularly running in the places, even when he cannot quite win.

Trained by Miss Evanna McCutcheon from an undisclosed yard, Hanney Boy has been sent out regularly and is very much an active racehorse. McCutcheon's yard has sent out just one winner this season, which means Hanney Boy's Cork victory represents meaningful success for his the yard. He remains a young prospect still finding his way in the game, but the consistency is there — five places from six races is the hallmark of a horse that belongs at its current level and will give its the yard regular days out.
