Hang In There

The roll of honour tells a story in itself. A Class 1 at Wincanton in November 2022 was his peak on paper, but what followed is arguably more impressive — three more top-level wins in the space of fourteen months at Worcester, Stratford, and Uttoxeter, then a fifth at Chepstow as recently as October 2025. Emma Lavelle, who trains him from her yard at Ogbourne Maizey in Wiltshire, put it simply after the Uttoxeter win: "Every time he goes to the races he turns up, and you don't get horses like that very often." Her yard has sent out 47 winners this season alone, so she knows what a good horse looks like.

Ground matters enormously with this horse. On fast, dry conditions he has won 2 of his 3 races — that is a 67 percent win rate, a remarkable figure by any measure — and Lavelle has been clear that better ground brings the best out of him. It is the difference between a good horse and a great one. Worcester has also been a happy hunting ground, with 2 wins from just 3 visits, suggesting he handles that track exceptionally well.

The jockey partnership with Joe Anderson is another thread worth following. Anderson has ridden him in 14 of his 34 races and won 3 of them — 21 percent, or roughly 1 in every 5 times they have teamed up. More tellingly, Lavelle noted that Anderson rides him every morning at home and "would move him into his house if he could." That kind of daily familiarity between horse and rider is rarer than it sounds, and it often shows on race day.

His most recent win came seven months ago at Chepstow, and he raced just yesterday, so the old boy is still very much in the thick of it. A horse still competing at this level at 12, still winning Class 2 races, still turning up — that is worth watching.
