Hallelujah U

Those two wins tell an interesting story on their own. The first came at Southwell in November 2024, and the second at Thirsk the following May — two very different tracks, which suggests this is not a horse that relies on one particular course or set of conditions to perform. That kind of versatility matters. Recent form reads 8-7-3-6-1-4 (most recent first), which on the surface looks inconsistent, but strip it back and you can see a horse that has placed in four of its ten races overall. The single-figure finishes are doing real work here — this is not a horse that has been badly beaten every time out.

What is harder to ignore is the record at the top level. In three races at Class 1 — the highest grade in British racing — Hallelujah U is yet to win, and those three runs have not yielded a place finish either. That is not unusual for a three-year-old stepping up in class, but it does set a clear ceiling on what the horse has managed so far when the competition is sharpest.

Then there is the break to consider. Hallelujah U has not raced in roughly four months, and the last win came even further back — in May. Returning from a layoff always carries a question mark, even for horses in good form, so the yard's handling of this comeback will be worth watching. On that front, at least, there is genuine cause for confidence. James Owen trains out of Newmarket, one of the heartbeats of British racing, and his team has sent out 210 winners this season — that is a yard operating at serious volume and with real momentum behind it. A trainer firing at that rate knows how to have a horse ready to run.

Whether Hallelujah U can build on those two wins and begin to put a consistent sequence together is the interesting question. The tools appear to be there. The results have just been a little stop-start so far.
