The Class 5 level is where Halla Bil Zain has spent most of its time, and even there it has drawn a blank from four attempts. That is not a damning verdict — Class 5 is competitive enough, and plenty of horses find their moment eventually — but it does mean the pressure is quietly building to turn a placing into a winning performance. Raced just yesterday, the horse is clearly fit and active, which at least keeps the opportunity close.

Trained by Grace Harris out of her yard in Shirenewton, Gwent, Halla Bil Zain is in hands that know how to get results. Harris has sent out 31 winners already this season, which is a healthy return and a sign of a yard in good form. The ingredients are there — a capable trainer, a young horse still learning its trade, and a recent record that shows flashes of quality. Whether Halla Bil Zain can put it all together and finally get its nose in front is the question worth watching.
