Her recent run of form reads 6-7-4-11-2 from most recent backwards, which tells a story of inconsistency. The fourth suggests she can keep tabs on decent horses on her day, but the seventh and eleventh show that other days haven't gone to plan at all. What trainers and owners will be clinging to is that placed second, proof that she can knuckle down and compete when things fall right.
She is trained by Mark Walford at Sheriff Hutton in North Yorkshire, and that at least is a solid foundation. The yard has sent out 35 winners already this season, which means Walford clearly knows how to get horses ready to perform. Having a winning trainer matters — horses from active, in-form yards tend to be placed in races where they have a genuine chance, rather than simply making up the numbers. Gwen's Girl raced just yesterday, so she is very much in the thick of her campaign, and presumably Walford sees enough in her to keep rolling the dice.
At three, she has time on her side. Some horses simply take a while to find their feet, and a yard firing on all cylinders is exactly the environment where a young horse can turn things around.
