The recent form figures tell an interesting story on their own. Finishing fourth and fifth in earlier outings suggested a horse that was at least getting competitive, but the last two races both ended in eleventh place — well back in the field. Whether that represents a dip in form, tougher company, or simply bad luck on the day is hard to say from the numbers alone, but the trend in the wrong direction is hard to ignore.
What works in Guildhall Graduate's favour is the yard it calls home. Trainer Gavin Cromwell, based in Navan in County Meath, has sent out 97 winners already this season — that is a serious operation, and horses trained there are not starved of attention or expertise. When a trainer is winning at that volume, they tend to know which horses are ready to run and which need more time. The fact that Guildhall Graduate is still being turned out regularly, including a race just yesterday, suggests Cromwell's team still believe there is a performance in there worth waiting for. At three years old, there is time on its side. The question is whether the racecourse will eventually agree.
