At just three years old, there is still time for the picture to change, and the recent form offers a flicker of hope. Her last six runs read 8-3-4-7-3-2 going back from most recent, which means she finished second last time before that, and has placed in four of those six races. That suggests she is running consistently enough without quite finding top gear at the right moment. The one result to raise an eyebrow is the seventh-place finish sitting in the middle of that sequence — a reminder that the good runs are not guaranteed.

She has been tried three times at Class 2 level, which means some of the better races on the calendar, and has not won any of them. That is not a disgrace for a young horse still finding her feet, but it does suggest her one win came in easier company, and stepping up has so far proved a stretch too far.

Her trainer David Evans operates out of Pandy in Monmouthshire and has had a productive season — 37 winners already this campaign, which is a serious tally and marks him out as someone who knows how to place a horse to its best advantage. The fact that Guernsey Lady has not added to her single win despite being in capable hands suggests the opportunity simply hasn't quite clicked yet rather than anything more alarming. She raced just one day ago, so she is very much in active service, and at three years old with a full career still ahead, the Lingfield win in May might yet prove to be a foundation rather than a footnote.
