That is comfortably the best of any range Greyval has been asked to compete over.

Jonathan Burke has been the regular jockey, partnering Greyval in 12 of its 22 races and riding 2 of the 4 wins — a win rate of around 1 in 6, which tracks the overall career record closely. The recent form, however, has been quiet: no wins in the last 6 races, with finishes of 5th, 2nd, 12th, 6th, 5th, and 6th reading from the back. That second place is the flicker of hope in an otherwise frustrating run. Greyval raced just yesterday, so the team clearly have plans for the horse and are keeping it active.

What makes Greyval worth watching is the combination of ordinary day-to-day level and those occasional, sharp performances when the occasion demands it. Cheltenham 2025 and Doncaster 2023 are not flukes — they are evidence that when conditions line up, this horse can beat better company than it usually faces. Whether another moment like that is coming is anyone's guess, but with an active O'Brien yard behind it and a track record at the top venues, it would be unwise to write Greyval off.
