Both wins have come at a specific distance — between seven furlongs and a mile — where the record reads 2 wins from 8 races, meaning the horse wins 1 in every 4 times it races over that trip. That's a sharp contrast to its results elsewhere and suggests Hogan knows exactly where this horse is most dangerous. Both wins also came at Class 5 level, which is the more accessible end of the racing ladder, and at that level the record is genuinely impressive: 2 wins from just 3 races. In other words, put Green Icon in the right company, over the right distance, and it wins more often than not.

The first win came at Chelmsford in August 2024, followed by a second at Haydock Park in September 2024 — and nothing since. That last win was 20 months ago now, and the recent run of form makes for difficult reading: in the last six races, Green Icon has finished 5th, 8th, 12th, 20th, 11th, and 19th, with the most recent run coming just yesterday. Those are largely mid-field and towards-the-back finishes, and the trend is moving in the wrong direction.

The partnership with jockey J M Sheridan, who has ridden the horse seven times, hasn't produced a single win yet. Seven races together with no return is a run that will raise questions about whether the right combination has been found. With a yard as active as Hogan's producing winners regularly this season, there's clearly no problem at the source — Green Icon just hasn't found a way to translate that into results lately. Whether the right race at the right distance can unlock another win remains to be seen, but the blueprint, at least, already exists.
