Trained by Charlie Johnston at the Middleham Moor yard in North Yorkshire, Green Area comes from a family with serious pedigree. She's a half-sister to Subjectivist and Sir Ron Priestley, both decent horses in their own right, and Johnston has noted that the bloodline tends to improve with age — a detail that could prove significant for a 3-year-old still maturing. A couple of setbacks last year kept her off the track for a spell, but Johnston sees that enforced break as a positive rather than a setback, suggesting the horse needed that time to develop properly.

The Middleham yard is firing on all cylinders this season with 131 winners already, so Green Area is in capable hands. Johnston has already indicated she'll be stepped up to a mile and a quarter soon, suggesting he sees room for improvement at longer distances. With a debut winner now on the board and recent momentum, there's genuine reason to think her racing might improve from here.
