Great Bedwyn

The real clue to Great Bedwyn's best chance lies in ground and distance. On normal conditions, the horse has won two of eight races — double the career win rate — which tells you it runs best when the ground is not testing. Over distances between one mile three furlongs and one mile four furlongs, it has won three of 16 races, a win rate close to one in five. This is the horse's sweet spot: firm, dry conditions, and a middle-distance race where it can settle and run. At Class 3 level, the horse has not won, which suggests it struggles when stepping up in quality. Hannon has noted that Great Bedwyn is a big, strong horse with "lots of ability up to a mile and a half" and has promised it will have "its days in the sun" after a break. That should be taken as a trainer's belief that wins are still to come, even if the recent form suggests it has become a generous place horse rather than a winner. The pattern is clear: keep it on normal ground, keep it at the right distance, and keep it in the races where it fits the grade.
