The most remarkable thing about Goodwin is what he does at Plumpton. He has won 3 of his 4 races at that track, which is the kind of record that makes you wonder whether the circuit simply suits something about the way he moves and jumps. Chris Gordon has leaned into that affinity, and it has paid off handsomely — most recently this week, when Goodwin won a £22,500 prize, one of the top races in Britain at Class 2 level. The trainer was candid about being surprised by the ease of it: Freddie set a patient pace in front, and the field never got close enough to swarm past him the way Gordon half-expected they might.

That November 2025 Plumpton win — also a Class 2 — showed Goodwin could rise to a big occasion, and his most recent victory confirms it was no fluke. Gordon has spoken warmly about what a clean jumper Goodwin is, and how he seems to genuinely enjoy himself when things click. An earlier win at Newbury added another dimension: Goodwin fought back after the final jump to hold on, with Freddie's available weight allowance giving the pair a small but decisive edge.

Day to day, Goodwin competes mostly at Class 3, where he has won just 1 of 6 races — a reminder that his ceiling has limits, and that the trainer picks his spots wisely. His first career win came at Fontwell Park in February 2023, and he has been building steadily since. With two wins from his last six races and a race as recently as yesterday, Goodwin is very much in the middle of his season — and on current form, Plumpton's fans would be wise to keep an eye out for his name in the entries.
