That opportunity has not arrived often enough lately. Golden Phase last won fifteen months ago at Salisbury on 15 June 2025, and recent form tells a tale of a horse searching for a way back into the winner's enclosure. In the last six races, spread across just over a month, the horse has shown enough to place in three of them—a fourth, a sixth, and a third—but the wins have dried up. There is nothing catastrophic here; this is a horse that still competes and occasionally runs well, but consistency has become elusive.

The real asset is the partnership with Hollie Doyle. Whenever the jockey climbs aboard, Golden Phase transforms into something far more effective: three wins from seven races together delivers a win rate of roughly forty-three per cent, a figure that stands in sharp contrast to the horse's overall record. That kind of spike suggests the two are genuinely in tune. The horse also prefers racing over a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs on fast, dry ground—conditions where it has won twice from seven tries—which paints a clear picture of what suits it best. Denis Coakley's yard at West Ilsley, which has sent out ten winners this season, appears to have the horse functioning at its baseline, but getting it back into the winner's enclosure will require the perfect storm: Doyle in the saddle, Bath on the card, and dry conditions underfoot.
