That is a genuinely strong number, especially set against its overall record, and it suggests the horse has a far better chance of being competitive when kept to a quick, sharp trip rather than being asked to grind out something longer. It is the kind of stat that tells you a trainer knows what he is looking for — get the trip right, and this horse is a different proposition.

Racing at what is considered a mid-tier level of competition, Global Skies has managed 1 win from 5 races at that grade, around 1 in every 5, which is actually a reasonable conversion rate if the right conditions line up. O'Sullivan's yard is clearly operating well right now, which at least means Global Skies is in good hands. Whether a horse that last won nearly three years ago can rediscover that form is the open question — but the distance profile gives its supporters at least one reason to stay interested.
