Gino Bella

The recent form tells an interesting story. In the last six races, Gino Bella has finished second twice and third once, with a fourth and a sixth scattered in. That is a horse running with genuine consistency at a decent level — just always the bridesmaid. Racing just one day ago, the horse is clearly fit and active, and Patrick T Foley's yard at Bagenalstown in County Carlow is in decent shape this season, having sent out 14 winners. That suggests the team around Gino Bella knows what they are doing — they simply have not yet found the race where all the pieces fall into place for this particular horse.

The question, of course, is whether that win ever comes. Some horses are natural placers — they run their race, finish with credit, and never quite break through. Others just need the right conditions and the right day. At six years old, Gino Bella is not young, but there is no suggestion the horse is running out of time either. With five placed efforts already banked and a yard firing winners this season, the belief is clearly still there. Whether Gino Bella can finally turn a place into a win is the one thing worth watching.
