What makes this particularly striking is the consistency of Newmarket as the stage for its success. The track has already hosted both the horse's only win and its most recent appearance. Trained by John & Thady Gosden at their powerful Newmarket base, where the yard has already sent out 140 winners this season, Gilding The Lily is clearly part of an operation in excellent form. The Gosdens don't run horses lightly, and a debut winner with a follow-up place suggests they believe there is real quality here. Only time will tell whether this early promise — a win and a place from just two races — develops into something sustained, but for now, Gilding The Lily has given its the yard every reason to be encouraged.
