Two of those four wins have come in Class 2 races — which means one step below the very best races in Britain. Winning at that level once is an achievement; doing it twice suggests a horse who knows how to perform when it matters. The most recent of them came at Chepstow in October 2025, and before that there was a win at Haydock Park in February of the same year. Those are two very different tracks — Chepstow is a tight, undulating Welsh circuit, Haydock a flat, galloping track in the north of England — which suggests Gibbs Island isn't just a one-venue specialist.

What does stand out is how well the horse goes when the race is a long one. Over distances of two miles or more, Gibbs Island has won 2 from 7, which is a win rate of around 29 percent — nearly 1 in 3. That is genuinely strong and suggests a horse that finds its best form when given time and distance to build into a race. The contrast with Class 1 races is sharp: three attempts at that top level have brought nothing, which tells you there is a ceiling, but at the level just below it, this horse is a real player.

Trainer Tom Lacey, based at Woolhope in Herefordshire, has had 37 winners this season, which puts the yard in good form. Jockey W J Lee has partnered Gibbs Island eight times for a single win, though the pair did combine for that Chepstow success. The recent form figures — ninth, seventh, seventh — show a horse who has been running without finding the front lately, but with a race just one day ago, the team clearly has Gibbs Island busy and fit. The win seven months back is not ancient history for a horse still in active work, and at its best over a long trip, it remains a genuine threat at Class 2 level.
