Gerrymandering

Trained by William J McLernon out of Kilcloon in County Meath, Gerrymandering raced just yesterday and is very much still in active campaigning. McLernon's yard has managed one winner so far this season, so this is a small operation where every good run matters. The recent form figures tell their own story: finishing fifth, thirteenth, twenty-first, and sixteenth across its last four completed races, with a non-completion before that. Finishing twenty-first in a race means there were at least twenty horses ahead of you — that is a long way back.

There is not much here to dress up. Gerrymandering has not found the winner's enclosure or even a place on the podium across five attempts. For a general racing fan, the honest way to put it is this: some horses take time to find their level, and some simply run for the love of it. Where Gerrymandering fits in that picture remains to be seen.
