The recent form makes for interesting reading. Those back-to-back third-place finishes in the middle of the sequence show a horse that was genuinely in the mix, and a second place somewhere in there suggests it has come agonisingly close. The most recent run, finishing tenth, is the one eyebrow-raiser — but horses have bad days, and one poor effort rarely tells the whole story. What matters is whether the form either side of it holds up.
Generous Support is trained by Dan Horsford, who operates out of Marlborough in Wiltshire. It is a modest-sized operation rather than one of the big powerhouse yards, but Horsford has sent out six winners already this season, which suggests he knows how to place his horses and find the right opportunities. Getting a horse competitive enough to finish second and third without winning yet is actually a skill in itself — it means the horse is being found suitable races rather than thrown in at the deep end. The challenge now is converting that placed form into a first victory.
At four years old, there is still time. Some horses take longer than others to put it all together, and the consistent placing suggests the ability is there. Whether Generous Support can finally get its head in front is the question worth following.
