That sole win came at Leopardstown on 3 March 2026, and the manner of it clearly impressed his trainer Gordon Elliott. Elliott had previously kept Generous Risk in flat races over jumps — so-called entry-level races — where the horse was performing well enough but seemingly working against himself, putting in too much effort without quite getting the reward. The switch to hurdles changed everything. He jumped cleanly, won convincingly, and the team immediately started thinking bigger.
Elliott is not a man given to idle optimism. His yard at Longwood in County Meath has sent out 209 winners this season alone — a remarkable output that means when he says a horse is "nice," it carries weight. He has described Generous Risk in exactly those terms, suggesting the raw ability is there even if the results haven't always shown it. Crucially, Elliott also mentioned a strong run at Fairyhouse as part of his recent form — a track he now has his eye on for what comes next. There is even talk of Aintree, one of the most famous racecourses in the world and home to the Grand National, which would represent a serious step up in ambition for a horse still early in his jumping career.
The recent form figures back all of this up. Reading from most recent backwards, Generous Risk has gone a non-runner, then second, first, sixth, third, second — a sequence that shows a horse improving, not drifting. The sixth-place finish is the one blip, but either side of it he has been placed or winning. At six years old, he is young enough that the best is very plausibly still ahead of him, and Elliott's long-term plan is clear: he sees Generous Risk as a future chaser, meaning the bigger fences are where he ultimately expects this horse to thrive. Right now, he is simply letting him build confidence and experience over hurdles — and so far, it is working.
