Gemmari

Richard Hannon, one of Britain's most prolific trainers, handles Gemmari from his base in Wiltshire, and the operation is clearly in fine form — 118 winners already this season. Hannon has spoken warmly about the horse, describing him as sound and capable with a good attitude, and noting that a minor surgical procedure and some time to physically mature have been part of the plan. The goal, in Hannon's own words, is a horse who will eventually handle two miles with confidence — and the numbers already back that up. Over distances between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, Gemmari has won 3 of just 7 races, a win rate of 43%. That is a horse who gets better when he has room to run.

The partnership with jockey Sean Levey is worth highlighting. Together they have won 3 of their 9 races, which works out at 1 in every 3 — a strong return that suggests Levey understands how to get the best from him. Normal ground conditions also suit Gemmari well: 3 wins from 8 races on a standard surface, again that 38% figure pointing to a horse who performs when conditions are fair rather than testing.

His first win came at Wolverhampton in February 2025, and his most recent at Chelmsford in January 2026 — four months ago now. That latest victory was at Class 5 level, which sits towards the lower end of the racing ladder, but at that level Gemmari has won 2 of 5 races and is genuinely competitive. His recent form shows a couple of disappointing efforts since that January win, but he raced just yesterday, so the team clearly has no concerns about his wellbeing. He is a horse still finding his ceiling, and if Hannon's assessment is right, the best of Gemmari may still be ahead of him.
