No improvement, no flicker of a return to form — just a horse that seems to be going through the motions at this stage of its career. It raced just yesterday, which tells you the team are still running it actively, but the results suggest it is finding things increasingly difficult at whatever level it is competing.

That is a long run of shared near-misses, and at some point you have to wonder whether a change of tactics might be worth trying.
