Gallego

Gallego is a two-year-old still finding his feet on the track. He made his debut just over a day ago and finished eleventh, which is par for the course at this stage—most young horses need time to understand what racing is all about. With Hughie Morrison's East Ilsley yard sending out 20 winners already this season, there is clearly competent horsemanship behind the scenes, and that counts for a lot when a green horse is being developed. It is far too early to draw any conclusions about what Gallego might become, but he is now race-fit and will have learned something valuable from that first outing. The next few runs will tell us whether he has the ability to progress or if he will settle into a particular level—and that is how young horses are meant to be discovered.
