The first win came at Kempton Park in October 2024, and the second arrived at Lingfield Park in June 2025 — both of those are all-weather tracks, which is a detail worth noting. Horses that find their best form on artificial surfaces often have a very specific profile, and Gallant's two victories arriving on that type of ground is unlikely to be a coincidence. At Class 4 level — the bread-and-butter tier of British racing, a step below the top end — Gallant has actually won 2 from 5 races, which works out at 40%. That is a genuinely good record at that level, and it tells you the horse knows how to win when conditions suit.

The partnership with Oisin Murphy is worth flagging too. Murphy is one of the best jockeys in Britain, a former champion, and when he has climbed aboard Gallant across their six races together, they have won twice — that is 1 in every 3 rides, or 33%, which comfortably beats the horse's overall win rate. Whether Murphy's experience is drawing something extra out of the horse, or whether he simply rides it on its better days, that combination clearly works.

The current form is harder to put a positive spin on. Gallant has not won in its last six races, and recent finishes of seventh, eleventh, and sixth suggest a horse that has gone a bit flat. The last win was in June 2025, which is now twelve months ago. The yard itself has sent out just three winners this season, so Oli Rix is not operating at full throttle right now. Gallant raced just yesterday and remains active, which at least shows the team believe there is a run to be found somewhere. The question is whether the all-weather tracks that twice unlocked this horse's best can do so again before the season moves on.
