That second place is worth dwelling on, because it shows Galactic Grey is capable of at least competing on its day. But a single placing from 12 races is a tough return, and the pattern of finishing near the back of the field in four of the last six races suggests this is a horse operating at the very limits of what it can do at this level. Having raced as recently as yesterday, it is still active and still giving it a go — which, at nine years old with no wins on the board, says something about the persistence of the team that keeps running it.

For a casual observer, the honest summary is this: Galactic Grey has not yet found a race it can win, and time is not on its side. Every race career deserves a moment in the sun, and that moment is still out there somewhere — but it is getting harder to find.
